The wind blows, the trees sway, the rain comes pelting down. The PON duo dig. The drier runs 24/7. 

Mid-morning. Madame Bay arrives in the 'Wild Child' voiturette. She is wrapped up against the wind in a voluminous black and red striped padded coat, a bright red scarf and a paisley patterned turban. Her exotic hornet outfit. Sophie gets a Lily of the Valley scented kiss, Bob disappears into the library where he hides under a table. '' M'Ongoose, M'Ongoose. I'm so glad you're home ". It seems the Retired Gendarmes Association are off on their annual pre-Christmas shopping bonanza. This year they're going to Boston. '' We've got a wonderful deal ". 

Madame Bay is worried that Boston will be cold. Not just cold but arctic cold with icebergs in the harbour and snow drifting along Boylston. Everything the retired gendarmes  know about their destination has been gleaned from a television programme about a Boston law firm. She leaves reassured. '' We're flying Air France. A little more expensive but you can always count on the food being good " says our septuagenarian globe trotter as she leaves.
